If you wish to pet a member of the pack, you must acknowledge that they may bite you. Usually, they won't bite too hard. Just enough to scratch the skin. Your reaction afterwards is important. If you scream, wail or show anger or fear, the rest of the pack will devolve into a feeding frenzy.
